Health Tech World’s mental health podcast picks

There are more than 19 million podcast listeners in the UK and that audience is expected to grow to more than 28 million by 2026.

The growing podcast audience base has coincided with greater awareness of mental health issues.

It’s little wonder, then, that there are now countless mental health podcasts out there.

Here are five to get you started.

Let”s Talk: Mental Health

UK charity The Mental Health Foundation has a mission to “help people to thrive through understanding, protecting, and sustaining their mental health.” The charity is also home of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The Mental Health Foundation Podcasts sees hosts and guests tackle a wide range of mental health-related issues, such as loneliness, suicide prevention and body image.

Guests include mental health experts, campaigners and people affected by mental ill health.

Man Up!

This men’s mental health podcast is hosted by musician and filmmaker Andy Richardson and blogger and musician, Tommy Danquah.

The friends have experienced anxiety and depression respectively. Through the podcast, the duo aim to encourage more men to open up and talk about their issues.

Guests include WBC heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno and mental health coach and speaker, Ben Bidwell.

The Sporting Minds UK Podcast

This UK charity provides support to enable positive mental health in young sports people.

In this podcast, charity founder Callum Lea and former sport pros Olly Westbury and Ben Twohig discuss the everyday battles that professional athletes face.

The hosts also to seeks to raise awareness of the ups and downs that come with the territory of earning your living in sport.

Mentally Yours

Hosts Ellen Scott and Yvette Caster chat to a new guest each week, all of whom have lived with mental illness.

Ellen has OCD, depression and anxiety while Yvette has bipolar disorder and binge eating disorder.

The show features everyone from shop workers to celebrities opening up and offering hope that things can get better.

The Hardcore Self Help Podcast

This weekly podcast answers listeners’ question about mental health ‘without the psychobabble bulls***t’.

The podcast is hosted by California psychologist Dr Robert Duff – author of bestselling books, Hardcore Self Help: F**k Depression and Hardcore Self Help: F**K Anxiety.
