Oura acquires Doublepoint gesture recognition startup

Oura has acquired Doublepoint, a startup specialising in gesture recognition technology for wearable devices.

Oura announced the acquisition on Thursday, saying the technology allows users to control wearables through simple hand movements using artificial intelligence and biometric data. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The move opens the possibility of adding gesture-based controls to Oura’s smart rings.

“Doublepoint’s tech helps devices understand small hand movements, so interactions feel faster and more natural across different interfaces,” Oura wrote in a press release. “When layered on top of Oura’s continuous sensing and insights, it enables the creation of new kinds of quiet, helpful features that work in the background and make everyday life a little easier.”

The company said it expects the next phase of wearable artificial intelligence to combine voice commands and gestures, and that acquiring Doublepoint could accelerate its plans for more ambient AI experiences.

The acquisition follows a strong period for both Oura and the wider smart ring market. The company was most recently valued at about US$11bn last autumn and has sold 5.5m rings to date, up from 2.5m reported in June 2024.

Oura forecasts sales to exceed US$1.5bn in 2026.

The smart ring market recorded shipment growth of nearly 51 per cent in 2025, according to market researcher IDC, with Oura leading the category as reported by Bloomberg.

Oura said the deal brings a team of artificial intelligence architects and engineers from Helsinki-based Doublepoint, including its four founders, who will help design and develop future AI experiences for the company.

The purchase marks Oura’s fourth acquisition. The company previously acquired Bay Area-based health tracking startup Sparta Science, metabolic health startup Veri and digital ID startup Proxy.

Chief executive officer Tom Hale said:

“As we continue to build the next era of Oura, strategic acquisitions play a key role in accelerating our growth and expanding what our devices and platform can do. Welcoming the Doublepoint team into Oura strengthens our bench with world-class talent, reinforces our long-term commitment to growing in Finland, and helps us move even faster to deliver intuitive, human-first experiences for our members across devices, services, and environments.”
