The first Amazon Web Services Healthcare Accelerator in the UK has selected start-ups representing a variety of healthcare solutions to join.

The first Amazon Web Services (AWS) Healthcare Accelerator in the UK cohort represents a variety of healthcare solutions backed by diverse leadership, with 50 per cent of the cohort identifying as women-owned or minority-owned startups.

Twelve companies have been selected from 117 applications from 13 countries, including the UK, by a panel from AWS and PUBLIC. PUBLIC is a leading government-focused technology company that brings a strong network of healthcare startups and an international presence to the UK AWS Healthcare Accelerator experience.

Applications were assessed on several factors, including the innovative nature of the project, the overall value the product will bring to the healthcare industry and the creative application of AWS to solve problems. They were also judged on the team’s ability to deliver on an identified opportunity.

The AWS Healthcare Accelerator in the UK is a four-week programme that cultivates and promotes innovative startup solutions aimed at improving patient experience and clinician experience, better health outcomes, and lowering the cost of care.

Among the participants is Dignio, which connects patients and healthcare professionals through a digital platform that disrupts the traditional way of delivering health services and opens up new possibilities for a more sustainable solution. The award-winning solution, enables safe and cost-effective care, whilst at the same time liberating clinicians from routine tasks.

Other companies selected for the accelerator include a digital surgery specialist, a mental healthcare platform, providers of digital therapeutics, AI and data companies, as well as digital home care providers.

The accelerator programme provides the selected startups with AWS Promotional Credits, specialised AWS training, mentoring from the healthcare domain and technical subject matter experts, business development, go-to-market guidance, and investment guidance. The companies will also have potential proof-of-concept opportunities with public sector healthcare customers.

The programme brings in healthcare industry leaders to collaborate with startups on topics ranging from business models, regulatory pathways, clinical validation, electronic health record integration, and more. It also fosters collaboration opportunities with AWS customers and AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners looking for innovative healthcare solutions.

The accelerator programme culminates in a virtual demo day on April 25, 2022. Demo day is a showcase event featuring presentations from the startups and AWS leaders.
