GenAqua has raised $300,000 in funding to commercialise a tap-mounted UVC device that disinfects water at the point of use in hospitals and care facilities.
Gold Coast-based GenAqua says the compact device sits on the tap and uses UVC LEDs to inactivate microbes at the point water is used. The system is remotely monitored to ensure the correct radiation dose; in simple terms, ‘dose’ is the measured light energy needed to inactivate bacteria and other pathogens.
Founded in 2023 by Scott Goulter and named Startup of the Year in LX Health’s 2025 LuminaX Accelerator, the company targets plumbing-borne contamination that central treatment may miss.
“This funding allows us to move from validation to real world impact,” said Goulter. “We can now take the next steps toward commercial launch in healthcare while building momentum in new markets. We are grateful for the support and excited for the year ahead.”
Proceeds will support Watermark certification, manufacturing readiness and an approved in-facility trial with Queensland Health’s Metro North Public Health Unit. The startup is also exploring opportunities in South-East Asia, where hotels are seeking protection against waterborne illness.
“It is great seeing Scott and GenAqua continue to grow so quickly after the LX accelerator,” said LX Health director Dren Xerxa. “We’re looking forward to watching their next stage of growth and supporting them with investment and ongoing commercialisation support through our scaleup programme, Amplify.”
Backers include angel investors, industry supporters and LX Health. GenAqua, headquartered at Cohort Innovation Space in Southport, plans to open its next capital raise in June 2026.
