Siemens Healthineers to invest €60 million in Kemnath production location

The investment will mean significant upgrades and improvements to the facility

Siemens healthineers: New facility investment in Kemnath location

Siemens Healthineers will invest around €60 through 2025 to expand and upgrade its location at Kemnath in Bavaria.

The project will create up to fifty new jobs while ensuring that the strong demand for medical technology products will continue to be met with no impact on quality. Radiotherapy devices from Varian, linear accelerators will also be manufactured at the location in the future.

Siemens Healthineers will set up new productions lines for that purpose while upgrading parts of the factory. It will also bolster the in-house training by constructing a new workshop and installing new software and equipment. The energy systems at the facility will also be updated. Siemens Healthineers currently employs 1,200 people at the location and has invested €13 million in a new logistics facility which opened in January this year.

The Kemnath location in the Oberpfalz region has grown since it was built in 1962. It was a purely contract-based manufacturer to a Center of Competence for mechatronics that covers large parts of the Siemens Healthineers product range. Some of the components developed and manufactured at the location include C-arms for angiography systems in addition to tables for MRI units and components for analytical systems used in lab diagnostics.

A new administration building with a capacity for 130 employees will be built at the location including the new training workshop and reception area. To enable the manufacturer of radiotherapy devices from Varian, a completely new production line will be installed in the production area. Delivery of the first systems will be expected as early as autumn 2022.

The existing 3D printing Centre of Competence will be expanded to increase space and for more devices to be added. This will enable individual metal or plastic components needed for production to be manufactured on-site and will create 50 new jobs at the site. Many of these positions will be in development and manufacturing.

Michael Braunreuther, head of the Kemnath location at Siemens Healthineers said: “Our traditional location in Kemnath will continue to play a key role for our business in the future. That’s why we’ll continue to invest in this area to support the future growth of the company and secure our leading position in the market. Our long-term plans for the future represent a clear commitment to the Kemnath location.”
