Derbyshire NHS introduces digital platform to help tackle rising demand for ADHD and autism assessments

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is introducing a new digital platform designed to help tackle rising demand for ADHD and autism assessments and improve the efficiency of neurodevelopmental services.

The Trust has partnered with digital health company Psyomics to implement beseen for Neurodiversity, a platform developed in collaboration with the NHS to every step of the service users’ journey whilst streamlining assessment pathways and helping services manage growing waiting lists.

Demand for neurodevelopmental assessments has risen sharply across the NHS in recent years, placing increasing pressure on clinical teams.

The new system aims to help services respond to this demand by reducing administrative workload, improving oversight of waiting lists and enabling clinicians to spend more time with patients.

Since launching in November 2025, beseen for Neurodiversity has already been selected by 5 NHS Trusts.

Dr Melinda Rees, chief executive at Psyomics, said: “We are delighted to be working with leading digital innovators like Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to tackle the ever increasing pressure neurodiversity services are facing.

“Whilst also helping to give service users a more flexible, efficient and patient-centred experience.

“By combining clinical expertise with technology, we can help modernise NHS pathways and improve both patient experience and clinical efficiency.”

Developed in conjunction with NHS providers, beseen for Neurodiversity supports both adult and children’s and young person’s services, across ADHD and autism.

Early modelling suggests the platform could reduce time spent on assessment-related administration by up to 30 per cent, helping services manage demand while improving the experience for patients.

It achieves this by gathering information directly from service users and converts it into structured clinical reports for clinicians.

The technology also provides service users with ongoing wait expectations, whilst helping validate referrals to remove those now out-of-area referrals or where individuals have already accessed Right to Choose.

This ongoing validation helps Trusts manage backlogs more effectively and ensure patients receive the right support at the right time.

beseen integrates with existing NHS systems, giving clinicians the information they need throughout the patient pathway while providing service users with greater visibility of their progress through care.

Key features of beseen for Neurodiversity include:

  • Waiting list validation to identify out-of-area referrals and individuals who no longer require the service
  • Bespoke pre-assessment data collection tailored to individual services
  • Service user reflection tools, psychoeducation and encouraging goal-setting ahead of assessment
  • A unified platform supporting multiple entry points and stages of the care pathway

The platform is designed to scale across entire NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and regional networks, supporting ADHD, autism and dual assessment pathways across both adult and paediatric services.
